Character Helpers

The Character Helpers folder contains supporting utility classes used by RuntimeKit character systems.

These helpers provide reusable functionality for animation playback, directional logic, sprite loading, and other character-related operations that do not belong directly inside runtime components.

Helper classes should remain stateless where possible and focus on a single responsibility.

Belongs Here

  • Character utility classes
  • Animation loading helpers
  • Direction calculation helpers
  • Character-related static utility methods
  • Shared character support functionality

Does Not Belong Here

  • MonoBehaviour components
  • Character controllers
  • Runtime managers
  • ScriptableObject definitions
  • Editor tooling
  • Sample assets

Examples of systems commonly found in this folder include:

  • AnimationClipLoader
  • DirectionResolver
Folder Purpose
Characters Runtime character behaviours and controllers
ScriptableObjects Character and animation data definitions
Data Supporting runtime data structures

Design Notes

Helper classes should support character systems without owning gameplay behaviour.

If a class requires scene state, lifecycle management, or runtime updates, it likely belongs in a runtime component rather than a helper.

Where practical, helper methods should remain deterministic and reusable across multiple character systems.
