Shadow¶
Purpose¶
Owns editor UI panels for configuring shadow capture workflows inside Snap Studio Pro.
This territory provides user-facing controls for shadow catcher setup, transparent shadow workflows, ground material overrides, shadow-only export preparation, and time-of-day lighting adjustments.
Owns¶
- Shadow setup UI
- Shadow catcher controls
- Ground material editing UI
- Background material override UI
- Shadow visibility/debug controls
- Shadow framing helpers
- Time-of-day lighting UI
- Shadow workflow coordination
Does NOT Own¶
- Shadow rendering implementation
- Capture execution
- Rendering pipeline implementation
- Preview scene lifecycle ownership
- Export orchestration
- Material rendering internals
Allowed Dependencies¶
Shadow panels may depend on:
- Shadow feature systems
- Preview facades
- Shared panel helpers
- Lighting abstractions
- Unity rendering/material APIs
- Preview scene helpers
Shadow panels should avoid depending directly on:
- low-level rendering implementation systems
- export workflow systems
- pipeline-specific rendering internals where avoidable
Notes¶
Shadow panels coordinate user-facing shadow workflows only.
Shadow systems own: - material handling - shadow-specific utilities - shadow request behaviour
Preview systems own: - preview scene lifecycle - shadow catcher placement - preview rendering
Shadow panels are intentionally workflow-oriented because shadow capture requires coordination between: - camera setup - lighting - material overrides - preview visibility - transparent workflows
This complexity belongs in UI territory rather than low-level rendering systems.
Future Candidates¶
- Continue separating shadow workflow UI from rendering implementation.
- Maintain safe preview-only material override behaviour.
- Avoid embedding export execution into shadow panels.
- Keep transparent ground workflows isolated from pipeline implementation details.
