=# Playback
Purpose¶
Owns editor-side animation playback coordination for Snap Studio Pro.
This territory is responsible for preview playback state, clip playback control, timeline stepping, keyframe navigation, and animation sampling coordination during live editor preview workflows.
Owns¶
- Animation playback coordination
- Playback state management
- Timeline stepping
- Playback timing
- Clip selection handling
- Keyframe collection/navigation
- Playback mode routing
- Editor-side playback ticking
- Playback sampling coordination
Does NOT Own¶
- Animation export orchestration
- Rendering implementation
- Preview scene lifecycle ownership
- Export frame planning
- Panel UI layout ownership
- File export systems
Allowed Dependencies¶
Playback may depend on:
- Unity animation/editor APIs
- Diagnostics
- Lightweight animation models/contracts
- Preview-facing animation integration surfaces
Playback should avoid depending on:
- export orchestration systems
- rendering implementation systems
- panel/UI orchestration systems
Notes¶
This folder exists to isolate editor playback behaviour from export workflows and rendering implementation.
Animation.Playback owns: - how clips play inside the editor preview - playback timing - stepping/scrubbing behaviour - playback coordination against preview instances
Animation.Export owns: - export workflows - frame planning - batch processing
Rendering systems own: - pixel generation
Playback systems are intentionally stateful because editor playback naturally maintains: - current clip state - playback position - looping state - timing state - playback mode state
The goal is predictable and debuggable preview playback behaviour rather than hidden playback automation.
Future Candidates¶
- Continue separating playback coordination from export orchestration.
- Avoid allowing rendering implementation into Playback.
- Keep playback state centralized and predictable.
- Maintain explicit playback mode behaviour rather than hidden automatic switching.
